Re: Is it really harder for male massage therapists to succe

Our business does NOT ask people if they have a gender preference. If a client states one, we respect it. If they ask for clarification of a therapist's gender due to names that can go either way (i.e. "Pat"), we clarify. I wish every business had the same approach, because IMO asking clients 'woul...

Re: Lose weight BEFORE beginning MT school?

IMHO you should lose weight, but it has nothing to do with you being in the massage program, but rather for your own good. 40" and wider waist is not good for male's health, a 9 to 10 waist to hip ratio is ideal (or so they say). As for being overweight - if any of your co-students have a problem wo...

Re: Which job should I take?

I would try doing this. Since job #2 gives you your schedule a week in advance, tell job #1 that you found a better (well, don't say better, more stable schedule and as a result income) place but you want to stay with them too so you since you will know your schedule ahead of time, you can let them ...

Re: Should I see this client again, or not?

I have to wonder if his previous therapist really did go out of state to care for a family member, or if that was just an excuse to get rid of this guy? or his previous therapist fired him just like you did and the guy came with the story of his therapist moving out of state. whatever it is, congra...

Couple coming for massage

Question for those of you who have their massage studio in their home. So you have two potential clients email you for an appointment - a couple, a man and a woman. They say they want to get their massages back to back, and inquire if they can stay at your home while waiting for each other. Which me...

wouldn't a (female) client get concerned with the therapist locking the door?

That would be my solution, and I actually seen a sign like this just recently.

Re: Harassment line... where to draw it?

if a service was not completed, the client could not be forced to pay, and the therapist would not be paid for the service if the full 50 minutes were not completed he wouldn't even have to pay for the portion of the massage already completed? Bizarre. So any jerk can wait till the very end of mass...

Aftershave

Question to those of you who shave in the morning (on the day you will be working that is) - as oppose to those who shave at night or carry facial hair and don't shave at all - do you use scent free aftershave (if yes which one please), no aftershave (my current approach), or use regular scented one...

Most people if they are thinking in terms of something other than a massage want instant gratification. Very very very rarely will they be prepared to book a week in advance.

doesn't that indicate a flaw in how your scheduling is configured? isn't there a way to limit number of online bookings people can do with you for a given day? or a total number of hours they can book or something along the lines?

Re: Massage Therapy = A Degrading Trade??

In Japan, it was the trade reserved for women and the blind and for centuries only they were allowed to practice it, and there was usually someone in each family that was their "Anma-san". Does he think that a culture that put so much emphasis on maintaining the honor of their family would concede ...

I know a MT who's been in the profession for over 10 years. Her parents (very aging and living in a remote community up north) still think that she is a prostitute and nothing will convince them otherwise. Some people think that massage therapy is a degrading trade (your partner seems to be one of t...

I have heard of MTs calling a friend/spouse/significant other when they arrive at a client's house and again when they are finished with the understanding that if they don't call by a certain time, the friend should notify authorities. Are these people unprofessional, disorganized or what? All of the above, and probably much more. Online vs phone reservations

Hi, Question mostly to those of you who have some sort of online reservation available on your website - how many clients use it to book an appointment vs. those calling you on the phone. Is the split 50/50 or most still use the phone? There is also I guess the email way of doing it - how about we c...

Re: New Student, New member

The minimum hours of schooling I need to take the board exams to become register is 3000 hours. I am curious to know what the minimum is for other places. 2300 hours here in Ontario, which translates into a 3 year regular program or 18 or so months or an intensive one. How long does it take out in ...
