Re: When you massage the glutes....

I was taught in school to just work the gluteal region and not to discuss it overly and make it awkward. In my practice I don't ask before I work on the glutes, I simply consider them part of a sciatic issue or lower back and hip pain. If I were massaging in a spa type environment things might be di...

Re: Online scheduling

Hi, since you are explicitly asking, I hope I can mention a new online scheduling site available without sounding too intrusive: http://www.bookeo.com . Not only it provides text notifications and reminders, but also many other unique features, such as online payments and deposits, gift vouchers (p...

Re: Questions for those already working as MTs.

1) Never sell myself short! The boundaries we make when were learning to be massage therapists will impact us our whole careers and they can mean the difference between a job you love or a job that doesn't make you happy. 2) My biggest challenge is that i just don't get out much anymore. Sometimes i...

Hi Marcus, I was originally in the IT field myself and becoming a massage therapist was one of the best decisions I have made in my life.

Re: Online Scheduling

Thanks for the info and I'm sorry it took so long to reply. $75 a month was a bit more than I wanted to spend. What I found was www.vagaro.com. They are more geared toward hair stylists but its working great for me and finally clients can schedule a couples massage online.

Online Scheduling

We use the bookeo.com service for our online scheduling and it works well for us except for one thing. We would like the ability to schedule couples massage online and need a service that will schedule two clients with two therapists in one room. Does anyone know of a service that will do this for us?

Re: Is it really harder for male massage therapists to succe

Some people will always want a female therapist. In as much as allot of people are going to have a preference for a female therapist, there really are allot who don't care or prefer a male. It was harder starting out as a male massage therapist, but over time it became irrelevant.

Re: Should I do Massage Therapy training?

I've never worked for someone else as a massage therapist, but I do know there is plenty of room for a male practitioner if you work for yourself.

Re: Drama-free

Good for you! I remember that realization that doing a job I didn't want to do left me feeling drained. It was within the first few weeks of opening our Massage Studio. Its allot more work than working for someone else, but it's a labor of love.

Re: Massaging Kids?

It can be scary working on children. I wasn't sure whether to work on a child or not about 3 years ago. I'm glad I did because my most influential client was a 10 year old with cerebral palsy. Some clients really make our jobs worth doing.

Re: The skill of receiving

I think for me today the line between giver and receiver blurred a bit. Maybe blurred isn't the correct word, but I've been under some really intense stress lately. My 11:00 am client turned her head and said I hope this is just therapeutic for you. Today it really was...

Re: Hello from Greensburg, PA

My wife and I are both massage therapists and work for ourselves. My work is pretty much all deep tissue, Myofascial release mostly. I have the best job in the world and the only job where all the clients leave in a good mood.

Re: Anti-touch/anti-look protection for crotch/genital area

Allot of people are nervous but that usually goes away after a session or two. If a cup gives you peace of mind then that's what you should wear.
If wearing the cup embarrasses you, try to keep in mind that your massage therapist probably wont even notice your wearing it.
