Also, what exactly is a knot? It feels really different than hypertonic or "tight" muscles. My rhomboids are full of knots and I notice them not at all, but my hypertonic traps bother me a lot and most of my clients are the same. They're surprised when my hands bump over a knot, because although they complain about tight muscles, they usually don't know their knots are there. What exactly, physiologically, are they?
