Question for the ladies...

Postby randypd on Fri Apr 03, 2009 9:50 pm

I gave a fellow student energy work with gemstone and hot stone treatments in class the other day. The session was very powerful as the hot stones seemed to open her energy body to easily receive the vibrations of the stones and my intentions.

After the session, she reported feeling restored circulation in her legs as I placed a black tourmaline stone below her navel.

For me it was a transcendental session.

When I asked her the next day how she felt, she reported that she felt great, but had started her period, and she jokingly attributed my work.

So here's my question. What's the emotional component of starting one's period? Does energy work have the ability to subtly encourage it? Is that a bad thing?

Color me rainbow, and clueless about aspects of being a woman...

Cheers!

In my many years of experience, my emotional component is absolutely none. And I've never felt energy work influences me cyclically either way. It simply IS.

Sorry to burst your bubble!

No bubble has been burst. The work had its effects. And her reply made me wonder if energy work affects a part of the physiology that I know little about.

I appreciate your feedback. :)

With energy work as well as with eastern bodywork I find that "blockages" can be removed.
e.g. the day after I received a cupping session from my friend I had three bowel movements. Normally I only have one. When I mentioned this to my friend she said that this is normal after doing work on the particular meridians she focused on.

So - to answer your question - I see nothing unusual about what occurred on an energetic level. I don't feel that there is an emotional component in that particular case - but who knows? :D

Many years ago, when I first started working on people with my then new Reiki Level 1 training, I had women who would start their period sometimes a day earlier, or have their flow increase more than usual. Now with the Jin Shin Jyutsu work that I do, in addition to the bodywork, I can often help a woman to have her period come on when it's been delayed, plus help her to get her cycle to regulate - if it's been off from the normal schedule. The energy work can also clear out cramping as well.

Generally speaking I would say the cycle thing is different for different women. Some have emotional issues that crop up more than others, such as being more teary, or easier to upset, just plain edgy, etc. shortly before the period is due. Some have more physical issues that crop up from feeling bloated, or experiencing lower abdominal & back pain, etc.

If your clients, or women friends are comfortable talking with you about it, you will find out a great deal more I'm sure !

Sorry for the what may be TMI to some but it answers the question.

I have had energy work done a few times on me, Reiki to be exact, each time after wards my cycle was early and extremely heavier than usual. That would last for about 2 cycles then it would be back to normal.Cramping was worse than usual though.

Thanks to each of you for the feedback.

Here's where I'm settling down for a landing: Energy work can affect any physiological system, be it respiratory, circulatory, or reproductive. The affects vary from person to person, practitioner to practitioner.

Physiological changes affect individuals emotional bodies in a myriad of ways.

The energy work does not cause the emotional response, but since energy work affects the energetic and physiological bodies, it will have an effect on the emotional body. That effect is dependent upon the emotional makeup of the client, and their relation to their physical and energetic bodies.

I don't know why I first wondered if it is different just because I don't know firsthand...but after reading these responses and talking to classmates, I'm happy with my new understanding.

Now I am not an energy worker by anymeans, but I am just hearing from some female clients that have had many types of energy work that some bodyworkers will not work on them while they are having their peroid because it is not a true reading of you energy

I had the opposite happen to me when I got my first attunement. My period was 2 weeks late, then it was late again after the second. I asked my masters about it and they said that some change was normal, but usually not to that excess.
~Thank you~

The only thing i can add to this conversation is that i can not do any energy bodywork during my period. I feel so powerless and my stomach hurts so bad - many doctors told me that sports is againts the pain but it never worked for me :(

Following energy work,I think it's part of the releasing process to experience diarrhea, discharge or even beginning the period earlier (or maybe even heavier than usual). It is not a bad thing to have these kind of reactions, as they are a natural part of the body letting go. In this case it's not just about the energy work alone, but the added benefit of the gemstone energy....
Tourmaline is related to blood purification, and has been used to tone and strengthen the reproductive organs.

You speak as if our emotions and our physiology were two separate things. On a fundamental level, our physiology and emotions can be reduced to energetic particles. All three concepts of the body: energetic, physiological, and emotional... are but one integrated body. There is no separation unless you artificially create one.

I have worked with women before specifically because they were not having normal menses. One lady in particular was having really bad cramps but still had not started her period. I could feel the energy moving into the area and she had started by the time the session was over. I did feel an emotional component was involved. Emotions can be nudged to the surface during the menstrual cycle and, at least in the case I'm remembering, I felt the energy work helped her release some relationship and career struggle energy that had effected her physically.
