Reiki's meaning to me

Postby HappyKarma on Tue Feb 27, 2007 12:42 am

I was sitting in my favorite chair after a meditation, reflecting on my Reiki journey and what it means to me- I can say that I am so very happy embarking on my path to Enlightenment. I look forward to the very happy day whan I will finally become a Reiki Master! Being in this place right now has made me such a very loving, content person who will make the Gift of Reiki attainable to any and all who wish to recieve it. I look forward to just living, breathing and loving Reiki even more than I do right now. I am less likely to get upset now like I did before. I am much more accepting of people's views/opinions than I was before. So I ask those of you who practice Reiki-share with me just what Reiki means to you. I look forward to reading the reflections of your journey. I have the Light in my heart forever-- I am a lifelong pupil of Master Usui and look forward to learning even more about Reiki.

Love and Light-

Fifteen years ago if anyone had told me that I would be practicing Reiki, I would have told them there was no way in the world. To do such a thing back then to me would be akin to practicing Voodoo. My journey to learning and practicing Reiki have taught me to be more open, more accepting, more understanding. While I did have periods in my life that were calm, by far this time in my life is much more peaceful than in the past. Not to say that life has been easy since learning Reiki, but is has shown me that anything is possible, that it is far better to follow the Universe and what it has in store for me, because it knows far more than I do and where I should be in life. Reiki to me isn't like any religion that requires me to "follow" some one and do as they feel is best for me, but it has taught me that there are many roads to follow, and that no one person or religion is "The Way".

Reiki to me is a way of peace. A way to give to others without expectation from either side. It's something that gives to both the giver as well as the receiver. It provides for everyone, no matter what walk of life or way of life one has. And if the Reiki that is given is not accepted, rejection is not seen as a bad thing, but is returned to the one who gives, and when the receiver is ready, then its action can take effect. Some times it may take time, some times years before the effect can be seen, but in time change can be seen. Which really is a wonderful thing, because it has infinite patience, much more than even a practioner has some times.

To me, Reiki has become a way of life. I may not practice it everyday, but its presence is always with me. It has helped me to see what being "spiritual" is really all about, and I can't imagine not having Reiki in my life now. Some times I try to imagine what my life will be like in years to come, and when I do, I can still see myself practicing Reiki, and seeing the peace it has given me and has given others I know and will know in years to come.

HappyKarma, I really love your signature! :D

To sum it up for me, Reiki is Love manifested in what is known as universal energy, available, generated by and connecting all things. It heals and restores balance when asked and directed to bring about harmony, releasing blockages and physical ailments that may have resulted. It is a combination of connecting with other energies and utilizing our innate healing abilities to bring about a positive and restorative change. Among so much more. And, it just is.

Love!
there is no path to Peace. Peace is the path.

Great posts!

I have to say to each and every one of you that your posts are perfect! I also can add to that that as a Reiki Master Teacher, I sometimes am overcome with a feeling of blessedness when I realize what I do. When I am in session, I am also receiving the beautiful , loving healing Light, such a double blessing going on in a session room! Can it get better than that?

Leener-you are so right about that! The other day I had finished an intense Reiki treatment, and the client had already paid and left, and I was beginning to do my after-session tasks, and all of a sudden began to cry! I just sobbed and blubbered about 10 minutes straight for no apparent reason. The session took alot out of me and I attribute the crying to an emotional release due to me having to use alot of my energy during the treatment because I felt so much better afterwards, and just felt so light and free and happy! I have noticed when I treat someone,I often recieve so much more than I give....I just love Reiki! Its a wonderful gift! :)

Reiki... I use the more generic term "energy therapy"... is a constant reminder that there exists a force greater than myself, that guides me, assists me, and is ALWAYS working for my highest good, even if I don't always get what I want. ;) I speak for myself only, although I truly believe everyone can tap into this energy, without help from anyone else.

To be able to channel this energy to another being is a great gift. I feel that more each day. Although I see the value of attunements for those uncertain of their abilities, I don't think they are necessary. Ask and you shall receive. Trust and allow. Practice, practice, practice.

I'm not big on levels or symbols. I know too many rank beginners channeling more energy than many "Masters". Besides, you can buy all attunements you could possibly want on Ebay!

Traditional Reiki symbols are great as a focusing tool, but in and of themselves they do nothing for me. I have my own symbol for focusing purposes that came to me during an energy session. I encourage all lightworkers to ask for their own symbol in meditation or during an energy session, and let it become your "symbolic mantra".

The many offshoots of Reiki have me baffled. A quick Google search found this:

Alef Reiki
Angelic Reiki
Archangelic Reiki
Brahma Satya Reiki
Celtic Reiki
Christian Reiki
Crystal Reiki
Divine Light Reiki
Dos Rios Reiki
Dragon Reiki

YIKES! One Ebay seller boasts "180+ Modalities of Reiki". DOUBLE YIKES! It's all Energy to me, from a Higher Source, for the recipient's Highest Good. I have to admit I think all this "my kind of Reiki is different/better than yours" is just a way to make money. I'm sorry, I know I'll ruffle feathers with that statement, but that's how I feel.

So while my introduction to energy therapy was through a Reiki Master, to whom I will forever be grateful, my idea of what it is and what it means to me has been shaped and re-shaped over the years.

What it comes down to is this:It is what urges me to be the best human being I can be, every day. That is my life's purpose.

Reiki's meaning to me... Hmmm.

I've been a Reiki II for over a year now, and I think it's easier to describe what has changed. I've always been sensitive to energies, but in no organized form. After studying Reiki so much became clear. Many of the feelings and sensations I had encountered while doing massage, and other modalities, now had a point of reference. It has been an incredible addition to everything I do, and also stands alone very well for me. The most profound effect on other modalities has been the changes it's made to doing Shiatsu. A few long time clients have noticed the change, and their feedback has been great. I now host the occasional share, and will progress towards master eventually.

As to barefoot's post...
I've always been amazed at the brashness of profiteers. This hit the martial arts world about 25 years ago, where everyone was creating their own style, and attributing it to "lost" or "forgotten" masters. Eventually the old traditionals which had lasted for hundreds (maybe thousands) of years prevailed once the imposters/posers were exposed.

Namaste

Wow! Attunements over Ebay?
Unfortunately our field does not have a system of standards. :(

A wise being once said to me that self empowerment was not self-entitlement or elitism. And when your in that mode, or think your a know it all your actually dis-empowered, because you have lost the ability to see the specialness, the connectiveness to everyone and everything in the All-That-Is.

The Meaning of Reiki to me:

The meaning that reiki has to me and for me is this, I see it as something that can be used to not only connect with the divine/God Conciousness, etc but also to connect with other people (via a treatment) and connect deeper into yourself. I find that Reiki is also a way to delve deeper into the world around you both physically and spirtually. I see Reiki as a gift that the Divine gives to people not only to help themselves understand things better but also to help others connect with themselves :)

Thank you for this thread, I have seen so many of my own feelings reflected in your posts :D

On the weekend of my level 1 attunement (level 2 soon!) I finally felt that I was "home". For me, Reiki has expanded the possibilities of my life through my connection with Universal Source, the people I share Reiki with, the clearer understanding of my clients that I now have...the list goes on.

And I have also found that Reiki has helped me to truly explore my own feelings about spirituality and religion with more understanding about my beliefs and how I really "feel" about the world.

Time for some more pondering...
